I’m back!!! I’m so happy to be bringing you music again. It feels like it’s been so long but I haven’t missed a beat. I got some great music to put you guys on to so let’s get into it!
1) Inouwee
Inouwee are an indie pop duo hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. Kaare Hansen and Signe Marike formed when Kaare felt like something was missing from the instrumentals he made with his computer and guitar. He stumbled upon Marike and they’ve been creating musical magic ever since.
After three years together they released their (synth and rock heavy) debut album Based on an Untrue Story in 2012 and recently released their latest project Dark and White earlier this year. Both are worth a listen.
2) Eleven:Eleven
Eleven:Eleven is the work of engineer Jake Childs and vocalist Sicca. Haunting vocals over danceable trance beats would best describe the sound of the Austin, Texas natives. Not only do they record original material, they make a lot of remixes as well. One of my favorites is Cut Copy’s Hearts on Fire which is the best remix of the song I’ve heard to date. Look it up if you have a chance.
3) Mirror Kisses
If you follow me on Twitter you’ve probably caught me praising Mirror Kisses’ Bad Dreams LP from time to time… it’s THAT good! Their music is reminiscent of early Killers stuff plus synths…lots and lots of synths. If you’re a fan of obscure melodies accompanied by top notch vocals (which DUH! You are) you’ll feel right at home with these guys
The Bad Dreams LP has gotten coverage from the Deli Magazine and other publications plus PLENTY of blogger love and somehow they still remain under the radar. It’s quite the mission to find something as simple as their names (looking at you George Clanton!) so for now just enjoy the music. Maybe it’s a Harrisonburg, Virginia thing.
4) Still Corners
Still Corners are a duo based out of London signed to Brooklyn’s Sub Pop Records. Their brand of dream pop has a chill, laid back, almost eerie vibe to it. The blend of Greg Hughes’ 80’s style synths along with Tessa Murray’s soothing and almost cryptic vocals are a perfect match.
Their latest work, entitled Strange Pleasures, is available now and worth the download, especially for fans of The Cure or Zola Jesus (A pretty wide spectrum I know but trust me, it works)
5) GuMMy BeAR
GuMMY BeAR is the work of Oakland producer Chris Johnson. He seems to dabble in a lot of different types of sounds; making one track sound very hip hop inspired and them next being really experimental. He remixed Jolly Roger’s Bay theme from Super Mario 64, giving it an extremely modern feel that’ll get stuck in your head for sure.
That’ll do it for this month! Hope you enjoyed these musical acts and be sure to come back next month so we can do it all again.
