Happy April Fool’s Day guys! It’s a day filled with shenanigans and tomfoolery. It’s the day you tell your significant other you’ve cheated on them….then watch them freak out. It’s the day us guys run around telling our friends we got numerous girls pregnant…accidentally (maybe that one’s just me).
Not only is April Fool’s one of the more fun (and totally unnecessary) holiday’s, it also falls on the 1st day of the month , which means you get 5 new musical acts to add your music collection.
That, my friends, is something truly worth celebrating. So, let get into this shall we?
1: Childhood
Childhood is a psychedelic/ shoegaze band from London. The band is fronted by Ben Romans-Hopcraft (guitar, vocals) Leo Dobson (guitar) Daniel Salamons (bass) Chris Brent (drums).
Formed in 2010, the full time college students’ dreamy beach pop sound and calming melodies have gained them comparisons to Wild Nothing and Beach Fossils. With a little a little 80’s and 90s influences thrown in the mix, Childhood has a sound all their own.
Having already worked with The xx producer Rodaidh McDonald along with the ever-growing fanbase behind these guys, it’s going to be extremely hard for the boys of Childhood to finish college. 🙂

2: Chancellor Warhol
First up on the hip hop side of the spectrum is Chancellor Warhol.
The Nashville native is definitely the most popular of the “unknowns”. With mentions in Rolling Stone and The Examiner, features in television shows such as Khloe and Lamar, ABC’s Charlie’s Angels, and Fuel TV, it’s quite probable you’ve ran into a Chance Warhol song at one point or another.
Officially calling his style electro-rap, Chance is already two albums strong! His first album, Japanese Lunchbox, was named best rap album of 2010 by the Nashville Scene. His sophomore album, The Silver Factory (named after New York work space of the great Andy Warhol), was met with rave reviews.
Warhol’s lastest outing is a mixtape entitled “Playlist for Edie” with a picture of the late (can’t forget amazing and beautiful) actress Edie Segdwick on the cover. It includes features from Goyte along with other artists and is well worth the download.
Apart from music, Chancellor Warhol is heavily into art and fashion. In an interview with Imogene + Willie, he talks about not only his passion for art and the origins of the Chancellor Warhol name itself; he also talks about his own clothing line, Marty McFly.
Chancellor Warhol is truly the definition of being the dictator of your own craft, and an inspiration to us all.

3: Underground Mantra
Carmine Mattia and Tyler Schwartzman headed to Boston from New Jersey to attend Berklee College of Music (which is a genius idea if you’re in band by the way).
The duo began by making parodies of hip hop songs they disliked. Pretty soon, the guys realized they were ACTUALLY good at it.
What came next was Some Kinda Smooth, UM’s debut album, which has the duo’s signature “bluesy soft rock sound sprinkled with feel good hip hop” sound all over it.
Underground Mantra is currently recording their new album, “The Woods”, while studying at Berklee. Needless to say, these guys have a lot on their plate.
Be on the lookout for when “The Woods” will be available, I know I will be.

4: Dangeresque
Dangeresque is the kind of indie rock band that got me into the genre in the first place. Aggressive yet tranquil, melodic, and always unforgiving.
The band consists of Adam, Alex, Brain, and Ben and come to us by way of Austin,Tx.
They are currently playing shows in and around the Austin area, and I long for an east coast show.
Simply put, Dangeresque is a band of guys who just wanna make kick-ass indie rock…and I have no problem with that at all.

5: The Yupps
The Yupps are French indie rockers who are due to make a splash in the states real soon (I called it!). The band is led to battle by Tom Vild Hasten. Along Jean –Manuel Schmidt and Max Sherbie the band is truly a force to be reckoned with.
Meeting in 2008 at a Bloc Party concert in Metz, France, the guys instantly saw that they had a lot in common. They spent 2 years fine tuning their sound ;released an ep in 2010 called “Ground Zero” sold out in a matter of 4 months, and was met with positive reviews all around
In 2011, The Yupps opened for Panic at the Disco! during one of their performances in France. Also the band began working on new music to which they credit Foals, Cut Copy, and Phoenix as influences
There have been a couple of new songs added to the band’s soundcloud page. Perhaps these are hints that a new album is due to be released, or maybe the soundcloud page is just relatively new. Hmmmmmmm
